About

Why Vivacite Jeux HQ exists

We're a very small team, and we love games that fit in a single rule and can be replayed forever. Vivacite Jeux HQ brings four of them together: 2048, Snake, Pairs and Tangram. We wrote them ourselves, in plain JavaScript, with no game engine and no framework.

What we like about these four is that they're immediate: one rule, one board, and already the urge to play again. The fun comes from the move itself, not from a tutorial.

What we built

Four games, each with its own page, illustrated rules and best scores. The entire site is one stylesheet and one script file. There's no build step, because there's no need for one.

Each game's logic is kept separate from its display. That lets us test the rules without a browser: the 2048 merge, the snake's collisions, the Pairs deal and the Tangram silhouette generator all run in our test suite, on every change.

Daily challenge

Each game draws a challenge from the date. Not from a server, not from a random draw: from a function that turns the date into a number, and that number into a grid, a route, a deal or a silhouette. Two people on opposite ends of the country open the same page and face the same challenge, with no data ever passing between them.

We care about this for a specific reason. A daily challenge is usually the excuse a site gives itself to open an account, send a notification and build a leaderboard. Here, the date is enough. Your streak lives in your browser, is compared to no one, and if you lose it, you're the only one who knows.

What we deliberately don't do

  • No accounts. There's nothing to create, so nothing to lose, nothing to resell, nothing to leak.
  • No analytics. We don't know how many people are reading this sentence, and we're fine with that.
  • No sound. Even Snake and 2048 are played by eye, without the slightest noise.
  • No advertising today. If that ever changes, the advertising disclosure already describes the rules we hold ourselves to.
  • No online leaderboards. Your best scores and your streak are in your browser; they have no exchange value and no recipient.
  • No notifications, no reminders, no emails telling you your streak is in danger.

Two things we say plainly

2048 was created by Gabriele Cirulli and released as open-source software; snake and tangram are traditional genres and puzzles. We invented none of these rules: we wrote our own version of them, tested, ad-free and account-free. The Terms page says so clearly.

Your streak depends on your device's clock. Set it back a day and you'll replay yesterday's challenge; set it forward and you'll skip a day. We could check against a time server. We won't: it would be the site's first network request, and it would exist to keep an eye on someone who only plays against themselves.
